Requirements
If you're reading this, then my shiny new personal site is up and running. Happy days! As of writing I only have a half-finished prototype and some vague plans, so let's attempt to crystalise this into a workable project, starting with basic requirements.
Must haves
- The website must be hosted at www.alfiewoodland.com
- It must demonstrate my competence in building web apps.
- Fully custom responsive layout which works on mobile, desktop and all things in-between.
- Pass Core Web Vitals assessment according to PageSpeed Insights.
- 100% ADA and WCAG compliant according to Accessibility Checker.
- It must be a showcase of my professional and personal projects.
- It must provide my CV and contact information.
- It must be secure - nobody can edit the content except me.
Should haves
- It should be quick and easy to deploy and update.
- Data should be backed up after each update.
- It should have an attractive* and original visual design. (* according to me, at least.)
- It should be easy and fun to use.
- The following domains should redirect to www.alfiewoodland.com:
Could haves
- I want to throw in some fun features, such as a physics toggle inspired by Google Gravity.
- Sort, filter and search functionality. Initially there won't be many projects, so it's low priority.
I'm also going to be using this project as an opportunity to learn React and get some more Azure experience under my belt. As such I think a sensible approach would be the following:
- Front end built using Next.js hosted on an Azure static website.
- Back end built using Azure Functions and Azure SQL database.
- Azure Blob Storage for media.
- A very simple local CMS built using React for creating, updating and deleting content.
I think that's more than enough to be getting started with. My first goal will be to get the basics in place so this post can be viewed, then it'll be time for another update.
